The pretty little village of Nowa Nowa is located at the junction of Boggy Creek and Lake Tyers. There is much to discover in the way of birds and other wildlife. There are also some lovely walking tracks taking in local sculptures and the historic trestle bridge that was built in 1914 to service the then thriving timber industry. The Nowa Nowa Primary School building is set among tall trees and native grasses and gives a real sense of connection to the environment. When we arrived on photo day, the students were immediately welcoming and their first thoughts were to respect and include rather than to shun. For me, that is a really special feature of this school. It is clear that Principal Ken Jeanes and the staff have engendered a culture where individual differences are appreciated and respected. The two bearded dragons at the school – Max and Tyson- featured prominently in the school photos as did the mascot Kelpie Pia.
